Heart-Based Investing for Working Mums: A Relationship Approach to Financial Markets

Updated: Oct 23, 2022

What is heart-based investing?

Heart-based investing is a unique approach to grow your wealth in the financial market based on your values and intuition. It is about making an authentic connection with your higher purpose in life before making decisions based on your values and what you care about. The belief that our heart knows what is best for us and can trust it to make lifelong decisions for ourselves and our families is rooted.

In contrast, a mind-based approach to investing discounts our moral values and higher purposes for logic and reasoning. From this perspective, we will need a thorough grasp of the investment markets by reading financial reports and analyzing them for high potential return or low-risk worthiness - all while keeping up growth expectations within budget requirements! Such a strategy can be time-consuming and confusing for those unfamiliar with finance. Even after pouring all the efforts, this approach may cause us to make decisions based on greed and fear that are not authentic to who we are, leading to feelings of dissatisfaction.

It is no wonder that many of us feel stressed when it comes time to decide on our investments. The mind-based approach can also be more stressful, as we constantly second guess ourselves and the decisions made in moments of uncertainty or stress. On the other hand, a heart-based investment leads you towards sustainable choices with love at its core, which often results in greater overall satisfaction and meaningful impact!

What are the benefits?

As you approach investing from the heart, you allow yourself to be guided by your heart and intuition rather than your mind. When that happens, you will be able to hear your inner voice more clearly, which is always connected to a place of truth that is neither clouded by fear nor greed. Everything becomes clearer because you cut through all the complex technicalities and chaotic news in the financial market, which can be confusing and intimating. This can help you make more aligned and authentic decisions to create something beautiful for your future. The freedom of time leads to abundant life in all areas: financial, emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental.

Before you start investing from the heart, you need to know why you want to invest. This means understanding your values, what you care about, and what you want to achieve in life. Once you have a clear idea of your goals, it will be easier for you to connect with opportunities that are in alignment with your values. When your investments are based on love and intuition, they have the power to create lasting change not just in your life but also in the world. This approach is also much simpler and can be done in a shorter period when you do not need to have a deep understanding of financial markets or be able to read complex reports. All you need is some guidance on getting started and what to look for in potential investments.

In my upcoming book, Buy & Grow Rich, I also provided examples of how to use relationship attachment styles to choose an investment vehicle that is suitable for you. There are a few reasons for using this novel concept to connect relationships with investment for busy working mums.

#1 The concept of relationships is closer to your heart as compared to financial theories and models. Whether you are married, unwed, or a single mum, you have experience in relationships, so it is easier for you to understand. An individual's attachment style is based on how we relate to others and how we view ourselves and the attachment style you have with your money is often a reflection of your early childhood relationship with your primary caregiver. So, if you experienced secure and loving money habits with your parent or guardian, you are likely to be more confident and trusting of your investment choices to reap the rewards in the long run.

#2 By understanding your attachment style(s), you will be able to work with your emotions instead of against them because investment decisions based on our relationship attachment style will have a direct impact on our financial returns, just as it will affect couples in a relationship.

#3 This can help you transcend any self-limiting beliefs that you have around money so that you can make more conscious decisions to avoid getting into transactional buy-sell relationships and missing out on long-term gains.

No matter your attachment style, there is an investment vehicle out there for you. The key is to find one that aligns with your values before committing your hard-earned money.
